Sidney's Story Continues

Earlier this year we shared the story of one of our patients, Sidney, as she navigated kidney failure, home dialysis, and her senior year of high school.  Here is the continuation of her story:

"My life completely changed on January 14, 2022. It was the day I found out I had kidney failure and would need a transplant someday. For the first seven months of this year, dialysis and appointments played a big part of my life. The day I got the call that they found a donor was one of the happiest days of my life. I was so relieved that my life would start to feel like it used to before the diagnosis. The day of transplant I was way more excited than nervous. I was happy to be able to live a freer life without dialysis. Right after surgery my creatinine had dropped tremendously and my kidney was already working great. Ever since my transplant I have been feeling so much better, my energy has been up, I don’t feel nauseous anymore, and I’ve been able to slowly start getting back to my original day to day activities. After transplant I have been able to go back to my favorite hobby, dance. I’m lucky to have been given a new kidney because I feel stronger and have more energy to dance. My whole outlook has been more positive since I got a transplant. I’m lucky for everyone at the dialysis center for being the most caring and helpful individuals while I was waiting. I can’t thank them enough, because I can finally live the happy and healthy life that I strive for."
